How does Revit LT use material assets? LT doesn't seem to include any way to apply thermal and structural properties.

It was a leading question of course, I'm thinking about how ruthlessly to purge my template.

Is this what you are after?

That will include the tab, but you need to decide the values on your own.  Refer to the Manufacturer's specs for this.

Well, it's where the question resides ....  I just tried to reframe the question, so,  "Is my next sentence correct?"

It was clear when I started using LT that it doesn't take plug ins and (maybe for that reason) doesn't do thermal and structural analysis, so the "thermal" and "physical"  assets  that are assigned to each material appear to be irrelevant for my purposes unless I send my model to someone who has the full version.

Like the Structural Engineer.

I use the Identity, Graphics and Appearance tabs frequently, the other two never.  Basically, within LT there' seems to be no use for them.

I'm still unclear what the question is. If you have no use for Physical or Thermal data, then don't worry about them.  They are however useful BIM data to others - even in vanilla Revit without "plug-ins".

Thanks BarthBradley, I think you are confirming that my LT Building Info
Models include fields for the Physical and Thermal, because they are in the
same file format as the full version, but I cannot currently use them for
anything at all.

This means that if ignore them it won't mess up anything I want it to do
in-house, and whatever I purge won't fatally mess up some family that
includes them (not like deleting a linetype at random just because I don't
recognize the name of it).

This is good, even in primitive ol' LT there is quite enough consistency to
maintain.

So I do appreciate your responses. Thanks again!

I can see your point now.

Materials are Project Specific.  If you are Linking into your LT Project a Project that was created in full Revit - with Materials that have Thermal and Physical Assets - the Link is not getting those Materials from your Project.  The Link is using its own Project Materials - even if the Link's Material Name is identical to a Material Name in your Project.  So, you can delete Materials from your Project without affecting the Link Materials.

However, if you load into your LT Project a Family (RFA) that was created in Full Revit - with Materials that have Thermal and Physical Properties - and you assign a Material from your LT Project to that Family and then Open, Edit and Save the Family, those original Thermal and Physical Properties will not be preserved.  Also; and I'm not to sure about this one: since Project Materials RULE over Family Materials, the Thermal and Physical Properties in the Family Material may not be preserved upstream.  What I mean by "Rule" is that if the Project and Family both have an identically named Materials, the one defined in the Project is the one the Family uses.

We need someone with both LT and Full Revit to verify this.  Unfortunately, I've never used LT.

This much certainty is perfect, and I'll probably find out the rest in a
couple of months. We have an Historic restoration/ re-use project grinding
slowly toward CD's - we modelled the Existing Conditions and Schematic
Design in our LT, and now that the grants are almost lined up we'll be
sharing it soon with the Structural, who has the full version. I'll report
back to the conversation in due course. So, will wait until then before
"accepting solution" in case it would close the string.

Cheers,

RBA ...
