How do I change floor type for multiple...

I am trying to change the floor type - for instance, the wood finish floor. I know how to change the finish from say red oak to say pine. But my problem lies here. When I do that for each specific floor/room, it'll change the prior defined wood floor finish of every one that I have already placed, even when I select duplicate to create a new one. So, in this project, I have the dining wood floors where I changed it to a grey "Hickory wood" but when I select to create a new one, it changes the one for the Dining as well. I know it is because in the structure, it is all under the "oak flooring" finish... but how can I change the finish material to anything else when there are no other options I can use for the material that I haven't already used (because there just aren't enough options to have the number of materials i would like).

I'm not sure if any of that made sense.

here's another example. For my bathrooms, I want slate tile floors which would fall under tile, mosaic grey. I created that one. Then I created another one using the porcelain 4in tile to create my marble entryway. Now, I want to create ANOTHER type for the kitchen that is NOT marble or slate - but there are only two tile options given.

Is there a way to create another tile type that I can set for my kitchen? How do I do it?

@kristina_kretchmer27

It changes the one for the Dining as well because both materials are using the same Asset. When you duplicate the material you need to either duplicate the Asset too or use one which is in the material assets library

You do it the same way described above.

  1. Duplicate the material
  2. Go to Graphics tab and change color/transparency/patterns (surface/cut)...etc
  3. Go to the Appearance tab
    • Duplicate the Asset and modify it (second/right button highlighted in the above image)
    • Or Load a new asset from the library (first/left button highlighted in the above image)

They do not have a material for everything, you will need to build your own material library as you go..there are lots of tutorials on YOutube that discuss this topic in detail

what is CMU vs Masonry, and which should I select when duplicating the asset?

YOU ARE A GENIUS, THANK YOU! 😂 but seriously, thank you. This is stuff we didn't learn in class and isn't in our textbook.

You are welcome…and no worries, whether it is in the class text book or not you can always ask anything about the software here.

There are lots of experts on this forum who could give you more and better ideas and methods to use Revit than any other text book or manual can.
