Hello,
Im currently working on giving models from solidworks properties and parameters. I know it's a deep hole and that it's"wrong" but now we ended up here rocking on.
After a few hundred different export from Solid>IFC>Revit i've mixed up my results. I have achiev what i want but i don't understand how i did it and i don't know how to do it again lol. If i don't remember completly wrong i think following workflow was something like Export from Solidworks to IFC 2x3>Open IFC in Revit>Gave different export to IFC as>Exported to IFC>Opened new IFC file in Revit again.
What i want to achiev is that my all parts/layers from soild becomes "Direct Shape" when i open the IFC in Revit. I have sat for hours with various export settings and do not understand how i arrive at this result.
Hi @jakob_hansson,
If "open IFC" (from open menu) is used Revit makes Revit native elements of the IFC elements, advice to only use this when it's a one-time convertion. Any dimensions, Tags etc on a update will be lost.
For getting Directshapes, Use the Link IFC method. This will generate a RVT file where all IFC elements are converted to Directshapes. This is also best practice if there are regular updates of the IFC

Hey, Thanks! That makes sense. I tried it out with following work flow:
Export to IFC from Solidworks>Link the IFC in Revit>Export to New IFC=Good.
The elements is classified as generic model which is better then my first plan i think. I also tried out this workflow:
Export to IFC from Solidworks>Link the IFC in Revit>Export to New IFC> Export to New IFC.
The model gets more broken down and gets more IFC properties. However i don't think the export is accurate duo very often components gets lost in the last export. I don't understand reason for the different results. Any thoughts?
