I asigned a true north to my project. I can swap between project north and true north on the properties palette on Plans. But the option is not available on the default 3d view which is oriented to the true north. I found some Autodesk instructions that mention you can change it directly on the View Cube, but does not specify the steps. By right clicking on the View Cube there are some orienting options which aligns the model to the project north, but the direction of the true north remains on View Cube . Is it possible to return to the project north on 3d without removing the true north?
I mean like if I have to sketch something on 3D I will need the project north orientation in order to align everything to the project north grid.
Set an Angle to True North in the Project Base Point or remove the Angle to True North in the Project Base Point. Those are your two choices.
...maybe you read about re-setting the Front View. Orient the 3D View to the Front and Set Front View to Current View.
The purpose of the Compass around the Cube is to indicate the Ture north...Resetting implies that the angle between Project North and True North is Zero. Hence you do not need to reset it unless it is 0!
When Sketching/Modeling in 3D, you can use Orient to Planes or Orient to Views...When you orient to Views (Plan Views/Floor Plans) the 3D will orient to the setting of that view (True North vs Project North)

The ring with letter N indicates True North. The cube itself has Back indicates Project North.
