How can I create and use variables?

Hey guys, Hoping to get advice on the best way to update redundant information in our plan set automatically. For instance we have 'construction type' referenced in a few different legends. Seems like this should be a parameter(?) that can be inserted in legends, on sheets, and even in the middle of text blocks. Can a label be created for this? I've seen labels in families but not sure if I've seen them in projects.

Create a shared parameter and use it for label in a title block family and add it to be a project info parameter in the project. And the title block family can just be with only that one label so you can place it on any sheet you want.

Or use a generic annotation family with the label referencing a global parameter.
