I'm having the strangest problem...every time I close my revit and re-open it later all of the hosted elements are gone from my file. If I open one of the files that was saved automatically though I can still find the hosted elements. So this time I tried opening both at the same time so I can copy the hosted elements over into my latest file instead of re-doing everything. I copied everything over, confirmed they're there, tagged them etc. I didn't have any need for the intermediate saved file now so I closed it and the second I closed it all the hosted elements disappeared again...I don't mean they're hidden or it's some kind of phasing or graphics setting, they're just GONE completely.
Working on Revit 2020 here
Explain "Hosted Elements".
edit...I see you referenced Doors and Windows. Define what you mean by "gone from my file".
edit...Wait minute! You say "GONE completely". Define that.
Seriously though...that is some kind of CRAZY SH*T going on. Maybe an Add-in is the culprit? Dunno. I'm stumped.
WOW...I just figured out what is causing the issue...there's a mechanical sheet list in the cover page that for some reason has multiple extra rows of lines in the table that aren't referencing any sheets at all. I just realized every time I delete those rows it's deleting elements associated with those rows as well. Not sure what is causing that issue but I resolve it by getting rid of that table and replacing it with detailed lines instead.

Yes when you delete schedule rows you delete actual elements.
