Hiding dimensions

I want to be able to quickly hide or show dimensions. I want them to show in plan view but not in 3d views where they are irrelevant anyway. Of course, I know how to Hide or Unhide by category; I'm looking for a quicker way.  I don't suppose there is a way to have them automatically hide them when I switch to a 3D view.   On this subject, why are there no keyboard shortcuts in Revit?

<scratching head>

Dimensions only show in 3D if you put them there.  If they are showing automatically then you must have some linked in DWG's.

As for keyboard shortcuts....there are a BUNCH of them...and you can make more!

With Revit open, go to the "View" tab...far right end of the panel is "User Interface", click that and select "Keyboard Shortcuts" at the bottom of the menu.

As for a quicker way of turning off dimensions,uncheck "Show Annotations in this view".  Or have another view with no dimensions.

Thanks for the help. Looked for it, but I'm not able to locate "Show annotations in this view" Where would I find that? I typed it into the help box and it took me to Show/Hide Crop Regions - a different topic.

I wonder if one solution is I should only dimension in plan view? I could do that, but I would prefer to have the ability to quickly turn them on and off in a 3D view. Frankly, I do most everything in a 3D view -- I use the "Top" 3d view as plan view. I'm working on a pretty simple residential design.

I did find the shortcuts as you pointed out. I guess I'm still just used to using commands extensively from years of Autocad.

See picture...

Type VG (hey, a shortcut!) in any view and select the Annotation Categories tab.

I'm confused. Dimensions are an annotation item, and as such are view dependent. They only display in the view you created them in.

So if you have, for example, dimensioned all the walls in a plan view, those dimensions do NOT show up in any other view including 3D views.

It sounds like you are working almost exclusively in a 3d view, adding dimensions and such. As you say working with the "top" 3d view as a plan. This is not really how Revit is designed/optimized to work. Like others have said you place the dimensions in the view where you want to see them. If you want a "working" view where you don't have dimensions, duplicate a view or create a new one for that purpose.

As for using a 3d "top" view as a plan, I would suggest against that as the actual plan view will also set you working plane etc... If you are always in a 3d view things and how they are related in the z axis becomes a lot more complicated.

I see your point. I thought that might be the solution.  Thanks to all for the advice.

I appreciate that you went to the trouble to make an illustration. Many thanks.
