Help with Roof Design with Gable Entry in a bay

How do I create this roof? I've given it everything from editing the wall profile, creating void components to cut parts of the roof but no matter what I can't seem to create this roof for my entryway! Any help is appreciated.

Draw it within a single roof is the easiest way.

@jovais1

You can also

  1. first use the join roof tool on the modify tab to connect the small roof to the bigger one
  2. Then use one of the opening tools dormer or face

I couldn't get the roof to work with a 1' overhang off of the front two sides on either side of the gable (highlighted green). Any reason why? After removing the overhang it works, but I would like the roof over the entry to run straight back as highligScreenshot 2021-10-27 111400.jpghted in magenta. Is that asking too much in terms of construction and the possibility of framing it?

If you use Pick Wall and set Overhang distance (this way controls the plate height) to create the footprint then you can add two temporary walls in order to pick.  Then hide or even delete the temp walls.

Another way is not using Pick Walls, but Pick Lines + Offset, to create the footprint.  That way you control the eave height.

As for the edge detail, you can use Fascia or Soffit tool.

I used the vert opening tool but not dormer. When I tried it would only give me this result.

Awesome... this looks like the right idea. I'll give it a shot now.. Thanks!

I drew some temp walls. Created an offset instead of overhang. Controlled the eave height by measuring and dropping it the measured distance and added soffits but I still have a roof that I can't create an A frame back into the gable. I think it's not possible!

I attached the walls up to the ceiling and overall it looks good - although not exactly as my design was intended. I'm not a framer and not sure if what I was going for could be built anyhow. Just find it weird to have those deep pockets up in the corner of the gable creating three points. 1.jpg

I think you misunderstood.  Either use Pick Walls with 1' overhang set in Option for the entire footprint, including the gable roof by adding temp walls, or use Pick Lines for the entire footprint (with 1' offset from the wall to create the overhang).  You do not want to mix Pick Walls and Pick Lines in one roof because one sets plate height and the other  sets the eave height.
