Hi everyone,
Wel.. I'm trying to make a revit family of a chair designed by one of the most famous brasilian architects, called Paulo Medes da Rocha. The problem is that the chair have a really tricky shape, witch I don't know how to model properly, so I thought that you guys could give some tips to help me model it.
The chair is named Cadeira Paulistano, it's a really gorgeous chair that I would love to use in my revit models.
I'll post here some images of what I have achieved so far, and even my revit file, so you guys can help me model it and also show me how to do it.
Thank you in advance 😉

Have you worked in a massing environment yet?  That's the skill-set you need.  You can probably place Ref. Points along the frame, connect them with splines. Then select all the Ref. Points and splines, press "Create Form" and see what results.  That's where I'd begin.

Hey,

So if you’re trying to do a basic approximation, in the regular family editor, you can form the fabric as a lump, with a sweep and use a series of voids to cut it shape.

As mentioned above, if you want a more realistic cloth, learning the massing family will get you closer.

Hope that’s of interest,

mark

Another option is to model the chair with external 3D software and import that into your family. Here's a similar example from 3dsMax to Revit. And you can do the same with Sketchup import, see link, so you can just download the chair model Here´s another you could try, might be better one although paid.

Hey,

If I need designer furniture and I don't have time to model it, I'll use these free downloads:

https://www.hermanmiller.com/resources/3d-models-and-planning-tools/product-models/individual/nelson...

They do get very heavy though, putting a few thousand in your project slows it down 🙂

I had a bit of a play, I couldn't open your file but this would hopefully illustrate roughly what I was thinking...

So.. I tryed to model it using the massings family and it is in fact a lot easier, but, the problem is that I would like to have it as a furniture, not as a mass family..... is there any way to make a massing family become furniture?

Anyway, thank you guys for the help and for the tips, I learnd a lot of diffrent ways of modeling things thanks to you all 😄 And being honest, it was more about challenging myself to model complex shapes in revit than in fact having this chair in my collection 😅 (but I will still try to figure out how to have a good modeled family of this gooorgeous chair)

Obrigado!

@gabrielcolombo05 You can change category to Furniture under Family Category and Parameters.
