Having trouble with a roof tie in

I'm relatively new to Revit 2020.  I'm building an addition to a ranch style home.  The addition consists of adding a bathroom suite and an octagonal sitting area to the corner of the home. I cannot seem to get the tie in from the new roof to the existing roof correct. any help would be appreciated, as well, I would be happy to compensate in return.

Why not change the plate height and have it above the roof(s) below -- instead of intersecting with the roof(s) below?

Just to be clear: I'm referring to the octagonal roof.  Are you?

The addition was added to the corner of the house, therefore, the whole corner has to be connected.

My suggestion would be to do something along these lines. Pretty much what I was describing before.

I like the idea of raising the octagon roof, it definitely makes things simpler. There's a skylight in the existing roof that I have to avoid, which is why I opted to use a hip roof for the addition. It's proving to be quite challenging to get the program to understand what I'm attempting to achieve. At this point, I'm not sure if Revit is capable of creating this roof.  Again, thank you for your help!

Revit only does what you tell it to do. It doesn't think for itself.  If it did, we wouldn't be paid the big bucks.  :zwinkerndes_Gesicht:

I'm definitely still trying to learn it's language on this one.

Thank you for your help!

Is this close to what you want to achieve?

okay, how'd you get that? did you have to do it in pieces?

That's exactly what you had before. That's your design. I thought that was what you wanted to change.

I did it as I will do it on real life ,on site:

  • I've split the existing roof into two roofs:
    1. the left is the Existing, the right (as small as possible) will be also Existing but Demolished in New Phase
    2. then I create in New Phase a Roof by Footprint using your sketch and additional lines so to cover all the demolished area.
    3. In Sketch mode I've set the Slopes as seen in attached image
    4. In order to allow a "jump" on the eave border I made a split of the segment shown in my image and the right segment will have no slope

1.

and the result is this (shown in New Phase , shown Complete):

Hey @Anonymous, out of curiosity, where's this aforementioned existing skylight located?

I placed a temporary rectangle in the bathroom to mark its location. It's located right next to the toilet.

I hate to ask, but where did they hide the "add a split line" function in 2020?
