Having trouble painting Flange (Structural Beam)

I've been able to paint the all of the beams/metal, but not this specific row. When I click the Modify -> Paint tool and hover over the beam, it doesn't highlight blue to paint it.

Any ideas?

I don't think you can paint any loadable families except architectural columns.

Why don't do assign a Metal Material to it?

Or, apply Paint the surfaces of the beam in the Family with a Paint Parameter.  Know how?

@ToanDN I was able to paint the structural columns/beams by simply applying paint to the face.

@barthbradley thank you for suggesting those, but they didn't work. I realized the Structural Material under Materials and Finishes in the Properties tab was the standard grey, so I changed it to the desired paint and it worked!

You cannot apply materials via the Paint Tool to faces of component family instances (except columns) in a project. You can apply the materials via the Paint Tool to faces of a component family in the Family Editor.

You did not paint the beam, you just changed its structural material. Paint is a tool under Modify tab and it does not work on structural framing families. Period.

Thanks @ToanDN , makes sense. Since the Paint tool worked on the Structural column, will it render differently than if I were to place a paint parameter to the family? The Structural Material is still standard, but it's showing the paint I applied.

I'm still learning, so any tips/tricks are appreciated!

Ofcourse I can't look on your screen, but it seems to me you did not apply a paint material  (not possible for structural beams in project environment) but you just associated a project material to the family material parameter... See below link and drill down, as @barthbradley likes to say... :leicht_lächelndes_Gesicht: If you did paint it, you did so in the family itself... or it's not a structural beam category family...

What was the solution?

@barthbradley the solution would be the link @martijn_pater provided above ^, but also relates to what you and @ToanDN were mentioning about not being able to paint the structural elements.
