Handrail Return to Guardrail

Is there a way to return this handrail to the guardrail without using an in place sweep, as shown in red below? I can't seem to add the horizontal path to the handrail. I also tried to add the loop while using the wall extension type and can't seem to get that to work either. Is there a simple way to do this that I'm missing?

You could end it with a Termination shaped that way

That'll work. I appreciate your help. Is there a way to add flip controls to terminations and have them show up when you click the handrail? I've added the controls to the termination family but they don't show up in the project environment.

If you use Turn to Wall instead of Turn to Post then you can edit the handrail path to get what you want without a Termination.  Editing is a bit finicky though.

Can you please explain/show how you did this by just editing the path of the handrail? When you say "Turn to Wall", I assume you mean the extension style (see below). I tried to do it that way, but I could never seem to be able to draw the horizontal path back to the guardrail. I also tried just moving the horizontal piece that is generated with the Wall extension style and couldn't get that to work either.

I'd rather do this by editing the path because using terminations that are apart of the handrail type don't show up in plan and having the bend oriented in the correct direction is hard to predict. Manually placing all the terminations works but I would rather just edit the path.

Yes I meant change the handrail extension style to Wall instead of Post or Floor. That gives you a horizontal cross segment to work with.

I get that, but how did you move the horizontal segment vertically? Everything I've tried doesn't work (unchecked constrain, checked disjoin). I can only move it horizontally.

HOW to modify horizontal cross segment for returning?

Horizontal return of a handrail extension is only available when you choose Return to Wall. If you choose Retyrn to Post then you need to place a custom handrail support, or a custom post with a horizontal 'branch', or model in place piece for the horizontal.

Below is what I have done:

1. Make handrail "extend / return to wall"

2. Tap /select the handrail only to modify

The horizontal part "A" can be moved  along the work plane(the handrail sweeping path), not able to drop down vertically to the end of the handrail and return to post. Can I move it down to look like exactly your posted example?

I got that, but having the same issue the "cross segment" can not move nor edit to the place where I want b/c the work plane locked. I posted the Revit file , can you take a look and let me know if you were able to manipulate the path to make it turn sideway and die into post? Thanks!

It is an old post wish got solved...why not just do what @barthbradley suggested its easy and hassle free...more or less universal and works for all rails

I am not saying it is not doable without...it is actually very doable but also depends on the final rail config and look desired. For certain shapes the extension/termination is a must

Otherwise start a new thread and you will find that everyone is more than happy to help you
