Gutter End Cap

How do I make an end cap for a gutter.  I can not find one anywhere, and I do not understand how you are supposed to create your own families.

It stinks but you would have to make a separate family for it.

Ok, but is there a way for me to take the profile of the gutter that I am using and insert that into my new family? I would like to be able to just have that and edit it, but it will not let me insert anything into a new family.

You can open the gutter profile, save to a new family, edit it to the shape of the end cap, and load it in a Generic model family.  Use the loaded profile to create a solid sweep.  Load the generic model to your project and place it at ends of the gutters.

How do I load it in a generic model.  I try to do; Insert} Load Family.  That does not open up anything.

- Open the Generic Model family
- Open the Endcap profile family, use Load in Project and select the Generic Model family from the list

It does not show in any of my views.

The profile is for you to create a sweep.  It won't show in any views.

In the screencast I created the generic model family based on a face based template so the process may be a bit confused.  You can use the regular template if you want and it will be simple.

Another method is copy the profile lines and paste them directly onto your generic model family, and create an extrusion.

Simple cut and paste method as mentioned.  It does not give you the flexibility of switching different profiles but it will do the job.
