I have attached a Revit 2018 format file. In it I have attempted to cut holes in a group. The holes will cut BUT only in one Group. Any other copies of this Group are not being updated.
It doesn't make a difference if the elements doing the cutting are in the Group or not.
This used to work in Revit 2017....is this a bug or have I done something wrong?
Thanx
I have made a screencast showing the BUG!
Another thing is that when i remove an element from a group the removed element appears in every Group location. This isn't right, it should only appear in one location on the Group being edited.
Hi @Hugh_Compton,
Actually in your case, the voids should be part of your Revit Family, and then you wouldn't have any trouble!
You can the use a parameter to make these voids cut your geometry or not.
Basically Revit is having a confusion between your group and your family.

I would just like to add that this bug still exists in Revit 2025.
One workaround that I have found is to use the Group Links. This creates a separate RVT of just the group elements that are linked to the original Group. Adding a hole in the new RVT and then updating the links makes all of the Groups update with the hole.
It would still be better if the Revit team could fix this bug so that we don't need to work with linked files in this manner.
