Grid visibility in floor plans?

Hi all,

So I spent a lot of time making my grids system for a project just the way I want it. The problem is that when I open a floor plan looking to add elements relative to the grid locations, almost none of the grid lines are visible!

Is there a visibility setting or something I may be unaware of? Or otherwise - open to all suggestions :)!

Thanks in advance,

Go to a section or elevation view and make sure that the grids cross intersects all levels... If they don't then

  • Either stretch them manually using the blue grips
  • Or On a plan view where all show
    1. select all >>
    2. Right Click >>
    3. Select Maximize 3D Extents

You need to post something one can see...

Otherwise, have a look at the following reasons for not being able to see something in a view

Couple items to look at.

1) Make sure visibility is on for Grids.

2) In 3D view, check to see of your grids are within the level parameters. If not, extend your level parameters so the grid lines fall within.

Visibility is on, confirmed.

Might it be helpful to note that none of the grids are visible in 3D view...?

Grids are often switched off in the Visibility Graphics settings of 3D view templates.

Go through the previously attached list of 33 possible reasons or share a model people may look at to help you

Make sure you stretch the grids 3d extent (blue circle), not 2d extent (blue dot).

If you don't have anything modeled yet then maximize 3d extent command might not help. In such case, you need to manually 3d stretch grids in a section or elevation, or create a scope box with enough height and assign it to your grids.

Funny :grinsendes,_blinzelndes_Gesicht: ...that was what has been suggested in Reply 2 and the attached GIF ... and OP said it is exactly what he did and did not fix

I have nothing modeled beyond the grids - how does this "maximize 3d extent" command work?

Also my grids appear to all be 3D (I guess the default).

Maximizing 3D extents just made a huge mess of grids, many of which I didn't create.

The visibility issue you are having seems to be more related to the grids not being perpendicular to view.

Nonetheless, Refer to the GIF in reply number 2...It does literally what it says; maximizes the 3D extents of the grids and levels (ie: Datums) to cover the far most element in the model or the defined Scope Box

Manually stretching the Grids as suggested in reply no. 2 also maximizes the 3D extents however to a defined point you specify on screen

If you only want that to apply to a specific view, you toggle the extents between 2D in lieu of 3D

...wait for the rephrase

Of the two screenshots I've included below, the first one is the grid set as I want it (on L01 of my Revit file). On the other hand, the second one is the basement level (L0B) after maximizing 3D extents on all of the grids from L01.

I think you can probably see why this isn't working for me.

I am slightly confused now what we are exactly discussing!!! Did you not accept reply 8 where to reply 2 you were referred to Maximizing 3D extents manually and/or all?

or was it not you who marked this question solved?

Oh, no. I didn't mark this as solved, haha.

But I just got a lesson from a coworker and feel 100% confident in my ability to do this properly now :)!
