I'm trying to give a different materials to different elements to import to twin motion. However it's reading as one material even trying everything from creating a new material to duplicate it>
have you try this duplicate material name then duplicate asset?
So many users using Revit 2022 or previous would duplicate the material without duplicating the asset. When they modify the material, the other material with the same asset changes with the current material. This is why the material looks the same when you render because it is using the same asset. I hope you duplicated the asset or choose the preset out of the box material.
Revit 2023 and above give you this option to duplicate material with assets so you make each material independent from the other. See screenshot below.
Could be the comments above. But could also be how you're exporting. You need to export a 3D view with no material overrides. Phasing material overrides are a likely culprit.
