Give a family part different options

Hi all,

I have made a family consisting of 3 parts. An inner steelplate, a core and a outer steelplate.

The steelplates are in different thickness.

They have to be the same model (0,8mm thickness) but I want to choose a different thickness (like 1 and 2mm) for the steelplates.

So like an option to choose the thickness of the steelplates, that comes back in the schedule lists.

I also want that choose option for materials, so a list of diffent materials that comes back in the schedule.

Thanks in advance!

  • Create subcategories for each of different component
  • Make Shared Parameters for Dimensions and Materials for this (in order to appear in Schedules)
  • Then create several instances of these components each one with the desired material
  • and finally create Types into the Family by using different values for Dimension Parameter and Vizibility Parameter (boolean ) to choose Material by swaping the Instances of different materials

Thanks for the reply.

I have a question left: My model exist of 10 profiles using a sweep. These profiels are the core and are different thickness, but the same material.

If I understand correct: Do I have to make an instance for each combination with the steelsheets, or can I simply "switch" within the family to another thickness of steelsheet?

you have to have different instances only if you use different materials , and then you'll use  Yes/No Visibility Parameters....otherwise for different dimensions you'll need no other instances but only Type definitions....
