I have this problem over and over again and moved the AutoCAD file to 0,0,0, but didn't solve the problem. I have attached the AutoCAD file for consideration. Thank you for any help.
No problem linking the file into Revit (2018) as is. Used origin to origin. No warnings
What you could try to do before linking the file into Revit is to clean it up in Autocad. In Autocad:
-Set the proper units
-Remove unnecessary elements
-Check/correct drawing also on the Z-axis.

Please mention Revit version, especially when uploading Revit files.
Hi Leila,
Any AutoCAD file has to be checked before linking/importing into Revit file , as this file may has something floating elements/points somewhere in the dwg causing it to exceed the 20 mile radius.
Try the below check points on the DWG file before inserting into your Revit file , and it will be most probably fixed.
TURN ON ALL LAYERS
* TO TURN ALL LAYERS ON USE COMMAND āLAYONā
UNFREEZE ALL LAYERS
* TO UNFREEZE ALL LAYERS USE COMMAND āLAYTHWā
SET APPROPRIATE UNITS
* USE āUNā COMMAND TO SET DRAWING UNITS
CHECKOUT ORIGIN OF DRAWING
* MAKE SURE THAT ORIGIN OF DRAWING SHOULD NOT BE FAR AWAY
FROM DRAWN ENTITIES. (Try to put the drawing at 0,0,0)
DRAWING EXTENT
USE ZOOM ⤠EXTENT TO SEE ENTIRE DRAWING
IF EXTENT OF DRAWING ARE HUGE THEN REMOVE ALL UNNEEDED
ENTITIES TO FIT THE SAME
* MAKE SURE THAT, AFTER ZOOM ⤠EXTENT ONLY REQUIRED ENTITIES
SHOULD BE VISIBLE IN THE DRAWING
NO ELEVATION FOR A CAD ENTITIES
MAKE SURE THAT ALL AUTO CAD ENTITIES SHOULD BE CO-PLANNER
MAKE SURE THERE IS NO FLOATING GEOMETRY IN THE Z-DIRECTION
* USE āFLATTENā COMMAND TO MAKE ALL ENTITIES CO-PLANNER
DELETE OVERLAPPING ENTITIES
* REMOVE OVERLAPPED CAD ENTITIES BY USING āOVERKILLāCOMMAND
PROXY GRAPHICS
* DRAWING SHOULD NOT CONTAIN ANY ENTITY RELATED TO PROXY GRAPHICS
* USE āAECTOACADā COMMAND TO CONVERT PROXY GRAPHICS ENTITIES TO AUTO CAD ENTITIES
X-REFS
* BIND OR REMOVE ALL X-REFS.
BLOCKS
* EXPLODE ALL BLOCKS (AS BLOCKS INSERTION/CREATION POINTS IFWERE IN FAR EXTENTS, CAUSE TROUBLE IN REVIT)
PURGE AND AUDIT
* PURGE AND AUDIT DRAWING BEFORE IMPORT INTO REVIT
Note:
SOMETIMES WE HAVE TO SELECT THE GEOMETRY AND āWBLOCKā TO SAVE AS A NEW .DWG FILE TO PREVENT FURTHER ISSUES.
(Try to do so always)
I have the same problem as you do. I did follow 'KarelCAD' wonderful teaching in preparing the AutoCad DWG survey drawing. When in Revit insert>LinkCad the message comes 'Geomety in ................... Cancel to exit import.
I then did the flatten command in the DWG file and linked it to Revit the message comes the same. The surveyor did send me a PDF of the drawing and now I am using that and drawing with massing & site and creating a toposurface.
It would be nice to know how to solved the problem in insert DWG.
Ah ha here is an easy way to do it. A friend of mine explained it to me. I followed "Karel CAD' teaching https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NtJ5VlZMUZ4 preparing the dwg file by elimination unwarranted parts.
In Revit I went to Project Browser> floor Plans> Site
Properties> view range> Edit>
top to unlimited
cut plane to 100000
bottom to level below
view depth to unlimited
press vg > site> un-tick survey point.
Insert and link CAD, cad format >centre to centre. If the message appears press yes.
Lastly, unlock project point symbol and move it to a known point of the cad drawing. Lock it and read the ID under properties. Go to DWG drawing and type ID and high lighten the same point as the Revit and it will read the same. I did the harder part of the drawing after used the cad drawing as an underlay and drew the toposurface as I like seeing the Revit toposurface.
