Hi Guys,
I created a steel box as a framing family. I inserted some structural column and framing element in that family.
There isn't any problem at this stage when I try to load it into a project. however, in order to be able to schedule the steel members, I have to check the shared parameter for the HSS columns and framing I used in the family. Things became weird from this point after I re-load it into the project, the frame family shows total wrong(feels like the work of some deconstruct artist)
Even weirder is the length data I get from the schedule is neither the ones showed in the project environment or in the family editor environment.
I tried to constrain the end point of column and framing to ref plane in family editor, but still no help.
Does anyone have any insight on this problem?
Thanks

What is the reason that you create a steel box as framing family?
Can you upload your family so we can have a look what you have ?
Louis
Please mention Revit version, especially when uploading Revit files.
Are you saying nested structural framing components don't flex in the project? This is typical behavior. The nested components are reverting back to their family default length. There are a couple of workarounds I can suggest if this is what you are talking about.
...here, I found this workaround for columns. It can be applied to structural framing as well.

Hi L.Maas
It didn't need to be in structural framing family. I created it with the generic model template in the first place, however since we want to have a bunch of this steel box in the project, I feel that structural framing better describe its material property.
Please take a look at the attachment.
Thank you.
Thank you!
I think that is exactly what happened in my case. I'll do some experiment and see how it works.
I just looked at your family and I'm wondering why you just don't build the "steel box" in the Project and create a Group from it. I mean, the Host family contains no parameters whatsoever. There's really no need for it that I can see. It's not only problematic, but you're also losing intelligence doing it this way.
That's my to cents worth. Good luck.
