Generic models

I need to make some brackets for a model.

I have made one using Face based Generic Model' but it doesn't seem to get placed where I need it placed.

The attachment shows a bracket (the teacher made) in Revit class.

I just can not figure how to find which______Based Generic Model was used?

And, How do I change the one I have made?

Thank you!

The generic model bracket the teacher made could be faced based or wall based when you look at the elevation view.  If you open the family in Revit, go to Family Categories and Parameters and scroll down to the bottom.  It will show you what the Host is.

If you want, you should be able to nest the teacher's family into your face based generic family and use it.  When you create a face based family, you really have to think ahead a little to figure out the orientation of the geometry you are modeling before you actually model it in the family.  This will help you with rotation and orientation of the object.

You can also introduce Control flip arrows to help reorient the family within the Project environment.

Hope this helps.

Thank for your reply dzanta,

But I don't see anything helpful when I scroll to the bottom of Family categories and Parameters, as the attached shot shows.

The other shot is of a rough component I made as a "faced based Generic model"

I was hoping to be able to find out if my teacher's was maybe "ceiling based or roof based, or wall based etc.

Any idea what I might be missing?

Thanks!

Your screenshot of the first image shows the family is Face based.  The second shows no host is assigned which means that the family was made with a Generic Model.rft file.  It can be nested into a wall, face or ceiling based family still for use.
