1st Generic Model Family.
Needed to simulate a window that has been infilled with brick that is recessed from the face of the wall.
I created a Family from a generic model face based family
Working well except for material.
Created material parameter
Loaded into model
Assigned material to the "Depression" but it is not showing in the 3D Model.
Material is the same material as assigned to the wall.... "Generic Brick"
Any ideas?
Not in realistic view I'm in consistent colors. Besides that the material assigned to the bew family is the same as assigned to the walls and they are displaying properly......
You are cutting a wall with a void then you will need to do one of the following:
- paint the depressed surface with a material in project
- add a thin element in the family above the depressed surface and assign the material/material parameter to it
Thanks Toan. I'll look into that. Now you have me wondering if I'm approaching this in a smart way....
Any recommendations?
Wondering if there is some way to just punch a hole all the way through the wall (like an opening lets say), then, infill that area with a "wall" that is just a shallower wall (has less depth to the airspace maybe). I mean that's how it would be built in reality.
Would basically be like putting a window in the wall> Removing the window but maintaining the rough opening>Mason comes in and fills in with brick and block.
Another part of this that I'm going to be running into is I'm going to need to simulate a triple rowlock arched header. This header is meant to represent the headers for all the windows and in this case will be recessed approximately 1/2"..... with the windows set back from that. So the header will want to remain at all windows & window filled openings.
Trying to simulate an old mill building where some windows have been removed and infilled with brick if that helps explain what I'm trying to accomplish.
OK. Figured something out. Seems like cutting geometry and infilling another wall type is going to work best for this. Have posted another thread related to how best deal with the arched header and the brick rowlock sill. Thanks for getting me off the beaten path of trying to use a "void".
