I have a dormer located at the end of a house. I had troubles with it attaching to the roof and while searching this forum found out I had to bring each end of the walls for it to attach to the main roof.
It now will attach to the main roof but I get a error when trying to attach it to the dormer roof "Highlighted walls are attached to, but miss, the highlighted targets."
When I attach it to dormer then try attaching it to the main roof it comes dettaches from maine roof on other side of dormer.
Whats the proper sequence to attach wall to dormer roof?
Use separate walls for the dormer walls....that way the bottom can be attached to the main roof and the top to the dormer roof.
You can edit profile the wall to match the underside of the roofs.
By the way, there shouldn't be any roof where I marked, should it? That roof should have stopped at the 2nd level exterior wall.
I wouldn't use the Dormer tool for this. It's not a Dormer. It's a shed over an gable. Model it that way; two roofs with the gable having a "hole" in it bounded by the Level 2 walls. You're on the right track with spitting the gable side wall in half though. This way you can have a different plate height for the balloon-framed walls that join to the shed roof. Or you can platform frame and build your second story walls from Level 2. Those walls would attach to the shed; and the half gable wall underneath the upper level wall doesn't attach at all.
Just poking back in. I think this picture will describe better. BTW: it looks like your picture shows a band joist. I think those walls (shown in translucent orange) would be balloon-framed.
