From topography to solid mass

I need to 3d print a model but STl Exporter plugin can't export the terrain as solid. Anybody know a working Dynamo script to convert the topography in a solid mass?

AutoCAD can be used to transform the Toposurface into a Solid object.

you can turn the Toposurface into a Mesh by using Dynamo.

Dynamo turns the Topography 's Triangulation Edges into Mass Mesh..placed into the same position.

I tried your solution but didn't work. Would you like to take a look at my files?

After you turn the topo to a Mesh using the dyn chart given by @constantin.stroescu do the following:

1. isolate and export the mesh to DWG

2. Create an in-place Mass

3. link the DWG back into the in-place mass

4. Finish Mass

5. apply Roof by Face

export STL

- Open your Revit file

- Export to DWG

- Create an in-place mass, link the DWG back in, finish mass

- Create roof by face

- Export the roof to STL

I made a screencast to show how could be done by:

  • using Dynamo to create a  Mesh or a Polysurface  to create a Mass
  • if using Polysurface then Dynamo allows Export to SAT (export to a .sat file)
  • create a New Mass family and Insert the SAT file created in Dynamo
  • Load the Mass Family into Project
  • use Wall and/or Roof by Face to place these model elements on the Mass family..

Could you upload your custom node TopoToPoly_3 please? I am very new to Dynamo and I got everything working except the exporting to a .sat file

Hi constantine,

I don't have dynamo, nor have I ever used it.

Any chance I could send you a topo file to turn into a massing for me?

I am trying to show a compliance blanket with the toposurface at the maximum building height in 3D.

I am also trying to use the section box to show the cut out of below ground but inevitably it cuts out the section for all the toposurfaces rather than just the bottom one.

Thanks for your help
