Foundation hatching

I have a dilemma of view range.  Have a foundation plan and want to see hatching in the foundation walls to differentiate between CMU and concrete. This works fine when the cut plane is below the top of the foundation wall.  But also need to see the columns which sit on top of the foundation wall.  When the cut plane is below we get hatch but no columns.  When the cut plane is above we can see the columns but no hatch on the foundation wall.  How can I get both.

Sounds like a job for Graphic Overrides By View, By Category or By Filter.

Hatching is set correctly for the wall, but when the cut plane is above the wall the hatch doesn't show.

So, you want the columns that are above the cut plane to show cut pattern in the view anyways? Set Cut Plane to cut columns and View Depth/Bottom to capture wall below and then override the surface pattern for the Walls. Use the Wall's Cut Pattern.  No?

Sounds like it might be confusing to the plan reader though.
