I am fairly new to Revit. I am attempting to place a footing and foundation wall (crawl space) on a residence. I am completely confused as to the meaning of the terms constraints, offsets and when I should use height or depth in specifying the wall or footing. The text we have skims over and gives one example that I attempted to duplicate exactly with no luck. Any suggestions as to where I can find resources for this information?

Add in a level for the foundation footing. Go to he View tab - you should be able to create a plan at the new level. That will allow you to place foundation walls.
Constraints = what the geometry cannot do
Parameters = what the geometry can do
Understanding these two terms is the key to understanding what Revit can do, and controlling it.
When you create a wall (Foundation or otherwise) from Structure tab, then you have the Options to choose Depth or Height: Depth is creating the wall from the top down; Height is creating the wall from the base up. Either way will work.
Structural engineers normally draw foundation walls from the level they support with depth. The view range must extend down or you will not see the walls as you draw them.
Architects are used to drawing walls with Height, so they create a level at the base of the foundation and draw the foundation walls from that view.
