Somewhere between 10/9/20 and 10/19/20, Revit changed the way it is displaying and printing the Bahnschrift Light Condensed font I am using in all of my plans. The spacing between letters randomly has increased by about 20%. This is affecting text notes, labels, schedules, families, etc. It basically appears that Revit suddenly started reading that font differently.
I am running Revit LT 2021 and had already installed the latest hotfix back on 9/28/20. But, I have opened old files in Revit LT 2020, and the change in font spacing has happened there too. Once again, it appears that Revit has changed the way it is reading that font across the board.
I have verified that other program (Office on Windows 10) have NOT been affected. The font in other programs still shows up exactly the same as it always has. This appears to only be a Revit issue.
Any ideas what could be causing this?
Here is an example of a titleblock family. As you can see in both the PDF version and the screenshot from Revit, all the type has expanded out beyond where it should be. For the last week, it both prints and show up in Revit with this expanded spacing. It does not matter whether I am in a project or family. It doesn't matter whether I am using Revit 2020 or Revit 2021. It does not matter whether I am in a recently edited file or an old one that hasn't been touched for a while. All the same expanded font issue everywhere. I am curious if you open the rfa file if it shows up expanded in Revit for you.
Any ideas what could be going on here?
Does the font come up spaced out (beyond the borders of the titleblock) when others open the RVT file or is it something unique to my computer?
Thanks!
Here is the 2020 version of the titleblock.
All the Revit files using this font were working great for the last year, then randomly the text got weird spacing.
Now, in my system, most of the text is either extending past the borders or overlapping other text, or getting cutoff.
How does it show up in your system compared to the screenshot from before?
Thanks for any help in figuring this out!
Which PDF driver are you using? I am noticing the font stretch with Bluebeam. When I print with Microsoft PDF, it won't have the same issue. It could be driver need to be updated.
Check this website for more info. Some user did find this fixed when they update their graphic card.
Thanks for checking this out on your system!
My problem is actually BEFORE I ever get to PDF. (But I am using Microsoft PDF.)
What you are showing with Microsoft PDF is what I USED to get both in Revit and when I plotted to PDF. Now, it is messed up (expanded) in Revit itself and consequently messed up when I plot too.
It looks to me like it is working fine on your system, so there must be something that changed on my machine that has messed up the fonts in Revit. I don't have a clue what... As explained earlier, the problem is only with Revit. The same font shows up fine in other programs.
Actually, I think the problem is specific to this particular font (Bahnschrift) and my current Revit. That font works fine in other programs. That font used to work great in Revit. As best I can tell, other fonts are working ok in my current Revit. I just can't get the font I have through ALL of my stuff in Revit to work in Revit anymore.
I will probably have to change the font in my templates and all my families, but it would be really nice to figure this out!
Thanks again for the help! Any ideas to fix or find the problem would be greatly appreciated!
I did a font test with Revit 2017 and the issue persist with BAHNSCHRIFT font. It maybe the variable font which create text shift. Also notice the PDF file size. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/typography/font-list/bahnschrift
Interesting!
I think you are pointing out a different issue from what I am experiencing. I am not sure if the issue you are having with getting the Bahnschrift font to plot through Bluebeam is a Revit issue, a Bluebeam issue, or a font issue. Since the font, Revit, and Microsoft PDF all seem to work fine together, I would suspect the issue you are showing is on the Bluebeam side.
I don't know what to make of the file size difference between Bluebeam, and MS PDF. It once again seems like that is a difference with the PDF drivers. Do you get similar file size difference when plotting other Revit files?
I still don't have any idea what is causing my issue which has nothing to do with PDF and is an issue inside Revit where the Bahnschrift font worked fine for over a year and then randomly started having issues.
Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing THAT issue inside Revit before we ever get to printing?
Hi, i have been the same problem in revit 2020, i have been using, microsoft pdf, bubble beam and cute pdf, and the problem is the same . if anyone has a solution, I'd like to hear about it.
Thanks.
