I realized that only in my computer the changes I make to the floating windows positions are not saved. I received a reply from Autodesk experts that I should look for the file named RevitUILayout.xml that should be created in the following address: c:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Revit\Autodesk Revit 2019\RevitUILayout.xml
However, strangely enough this file shows on most of our stations but not on mine and the security permissions are identical. Anyone has an idea why that happens? the same goes for changes I make in the order of the tabs of the main ribbon, they are not saved!
Thanks...
Have you tried copying one from someones workstation to yours? Verify that you have full control of that file in the permissions for it.
Do you have an antivirus that might be removing it?
In that same folder there should also be MaterialUIConfig.xml...is that one there?
Yes, I tried copying and when I did that it uploaded the definitions from the other computer. However, it did not save new ones on mine. The Material file is there. I checked all the security permissions and found no difference between the two. Can't figure it out...
Problem: In Revit 2020 only, (2017/18/19/21 all function fine), the Properties Palette resets itself back to the default location every time I restart Revit and open either a new, or existing project.
Solution: Looking at previous suggestions, I looked for the RevitUILayout.xml file which should be located under c:\Users\Your User Name\Appdata\Roaming\Autodesk\Revit\Autodesk 2020...and found it wasn't there! With all Revut versions closed, I copied the RevitUILayout.xml file from c:\Users\Your User Name\Appdata\Roaming\Autodesk\Revit\Autodesk 2019, located on the same PC and pasted it to the 2020 location which didn't have it. All works fine now. Many thanks to other posts that identified the file and location as it was sooo annoying!
