Flex an Angle

Hi all, I have created this family and I need it to flex in two different ways. The Length and the Angle. I have already set up the Length parameters and tested them and they work how I want them to. My problem is the Angle parameter. I essentially need the family to work like a pair of scissors or garden shears but whenever I try to add an Angle parameter I break the family. Could anyone offer help? I've attached a photo detailing where I need the Angle parameter to be with the red line. And I also attached the family file if anyone would like to go in and see the set up. Thanks.

This is a very difficult task in my experience. A scissor lift family can be very very complicated. I solved the problem with nested families in the past.

See the linked family. It is quite old and I don't recommend making yours this complicated. But the premise of nested elements and parameter mapping is the way to go.

Create the blade as a separate family, nest it in the main family and host each instance on ref line (NOT ref plane), give each ref line an angle parameter to control their rotation.  Associate the length parameter of the nested blades with a length parameter in the main family.

No; not at all. I seriously like your approach.

Glad you see the light and feel free to keep it for future use.  You are welcome.

Both of you solved my initial problem but introduced new problems. @ToanDN the braces on your model are overlapping each other and also facing the same way I need them to be one behind the other and the one in front to be flipped from how they are now. I see things have been locked and I don't want to move stuff around and break it. Also see below for my comments on the origin point.

@barthbradleyYour model is visually correct with what I needed but the origin point is wrong. I also see things have been locked in yours so yeah I don't want to mess the models up by trying to tweak them. Okay, I need TWO files. I need one file with the origin in the first bottom left hole and one file with the origin in the second bottom left hole which I see I also messed up in the model I posted. My apologies, I realized after talking with another coworker. I included pictures with the highlighted holes.

Sorry to both of you if I am being difficult but I really appreciate the help

When you say "Origin", are you meaning the x,y insertion point?  If so, you can use "Origin" Reference Planes to do that.

I just mean when you load it into a project, the point that it will insert at. Like where your mouse clicks to place it

See attached RFA for another approach.

Note: this RFA has my original RFA (above) as a Nested Shared Family in it. No changes were made to the original. I just nested it into this new one to establish a new "Origin".

That is an easy fix.  You can move and mirror the brace on plane how ever you want.  I added a flip control in the nested family so you jus need to do one click to flip.  See attached family.
