Find 'Line Patterns' in views

I am in process of cleaning up some of our drawings which have more than 1000 imported linetypes from Autocad.

I have found Dynamo scripts to mass delete them but the problem is that unlike 'Line Styles' Revit (or This Dynamo script) will delete 'Line Patterns' without any warning that they are used in the drawing. After deleting they will be replaced by a simple line.

Is there a workaround or maybe a script that would either point out which view has that line pattern or at least if it is currently used in the drawing?

Thanks,

Do the AutoCAD lines all have a common and distinctive identifier, or are they just lumped into the mix?

They all have 'Import' start of their names. But that's the 'Line pattern' name not 'Line style'.

So, if I understand you correctly, you want to delete just the unused "IMPORT" Line Patterns. In other words, you have CAD Links/Imports using some of "IMPORT" Line Patterns in the Project -- just not all of them.  Is this about the size of it?

What about letting Dynamo do it's thing and batch delete all the hundreds of "IMPORT" Line Patterns you have in the Project. This will obviously assign a Solid Pattern to all the AutoCAD linework in the Project.  But, if delete those AutoCAD elements and re-Link or re-Import them, the Line Patterns will return to "normal".

Yes. I'm trying to clean up our Library. The problem is that these "import" line patterns are a mixture of 'exploded' and 'not exploded' cad files (mostly in form of small details that were used when we transited to revit).

I can't find CAD files anymore as these stuff have been added during years to the library. I want to purge the unused patterns first. Then for the remaining "import'"s I can change them one by one to our line patterns. I have to do this to several files which contains several details and I don't want to risk changing the look of them.

I'm a little confused. I thought we were talking about named "IMPORT" Line Patterns. How does this relate to the Material Library? Do you mean that these named "IMPORT" Line Patterns have been added to your default template (rte)?

There are add-ins at the App Store that will remove imported dwg's....

By library i meant some .rvt files that contain our typical details and are full of these “import” line patterns. Not material library.

Yes these line types are in our .rte template too.

Yes. I can delete imported ones in mass. Do these add-ins know which ones are used in drawing? That’s the whole point of this thread.

Ah...now if you want to find "where" they are used with the intent of getting them converted to Revit detail items before purging....you should look into Ideate Explorer.  It has a free trial to let you test it out.

Which reminds me...I need to get it too, as I found some import line patterns in my template and I thought I got all the offending dwg's already.

I downloaded the trial. This seems like a promising add-in. I still can't find those line patterns but will have to dig deeper probably.

What do you mean you can't find them?  "IMPORT" line patterns are mapped to resident Revit Line Patterns.

Okay...so it won't do exactly what you are wanting because the line patterns piggy back with the inserted dwg's.  The only way to get rid of them completely is to completely not import dwg's into your files.   You can purge a dwg many times and some patterns will still import. But the add-in should find the dwg's if they are in the project file or families that are loaded into the project.
