Hi all,
I am trying to create a filter for multicategory based on a text parameter in a federated mode with different links
The filter I created contains walls and structural columns and the info to add in the filter is if the shared parameter "SharedParameter_text" is equal to "Blue".
well if i select only walls in the filter, the filter works but if i selected walls and Structural columns the filter only applies to the structural columns. it does not work for multicategory
Do you know why?
Post the File here.
Are you trying to write a Project Parameter to Linked Project Elements in your Project? You can't.
If "SharedParameter_text" is already in the Link Project, as well as yours - and they are the exact same Shared Parameter - then it should work. But like I said, you can't write to a Linked Parameter from the Parent Project.
Have you added the Shared parameter to the links, assigned them to categories, and input value for elements in the links?
Yes, that is the problem i have.
I reviewed everything.
the same shared parameter has been added to all the links, Some of the elements have the parameter filled as blue and others as green. and the filter only works when i applied to only one category. if i apply to more than one category it does not work properly.
Adding a Shared Parameter to "RVT Links" Category does not add the Shared Parameter to the Links' Walls/Structural Columns. You would need to open the Link Project directly and add the Shared Parameter to Wall/Structural Column Categories.
...and the Link in the Parent Project View would need to be displayed By Host View - not By Linked View.
the shared parameter has been added into each revit model, it has not be added to the revit Link in the federated model. it has been added into each individual model as per the walls belong to the arch model and the columns belong to the structural model
So, just to confirm: when the Link Projects are opened and Walls/Structural Columns are selected, the Shared Parameter is shown in their Properties. Correct?
And it is the exact same Shared Parameter - from the exact same Shared Parameter Text File - that is used by all the Projects. Correct?
Exactly!!!
the filter works when I select only the Wall, the if a change the filter to the structural columns works as well. the problem comes when I select in the filter the structural column and the wall for the filter to be applied in both categories. the filter only works for the structural column and does not work for the wall.!!
whiteout any sense!!
Okay. Got it. Does it work in the same View if you create 2 Filters - one for Walls and one for Structural Columns?
Yes,
i have duplicate the filter one for walls and one for structural columns, they both work.
Well, that's good. So, it isn't stopping you from preceding. You're just wondering it won't work when combined. I'm curious too.

But was the shared parameter assigned to the same set of Categories in those models?
the shared parameters was added to the walls in the architectural model and to the structural columns to the structural model.
it was not added to all the categories in all the models. only to the specific ones

That is the problem. You must assign the shared parameter to the same set of categories for all linked models and the host model.
