Filled region draw order/masking in nested family

I have a crane family that contains a nested family with Filled Regions for the plan depiction. My problem is that the appearance gets messed up when I load the family into a test project. I'm not sure whether it is a problem with the draw order or the masking effect of the different filled regions.

If I load the 2D-family directly into the project (not nested within crane family) it works as intended:

Could this be something to do with the parameters in the family constraining the fills?

Maybe what you need is a Masking Region?  MRs can be drawn on/hosted to named Ref. Planes/Work Planes if "Draw in Foreground" is unchecked.   Read this AKN Article to learn more:

Hi, thanks for the answer!

I didn't go with masking regions on purpose, since I want to be able to change the colour, but unchecking "Draw in Foreground" box solves my problem.

This should be very embarising for Autodesk. I have also not found a solution. It a very old problem, here's a more recent post from 2014 https://revitforum.org/showthread.php/20286-Filled-regions-in-detail-component-masked-by-model-eleme...
