We are trying to place a filled or masking region on a dependent floor plan view. The button does not actually start the command. Any ideas why?
I am sure this worked in the past especially when we could only create rectangular crops.
I can place them on my section views non-dependent plans , but not on any dependent plan views in this project.
Revit 2018.2 all known updates applied.

Correct
The Ribbon blinks and goes back to Select.
When I click this on another view I get the context tab.
Nope
Only Non-dependent views.
I also just checked a couple dependent section views in another project. Same result.
So it seems you cannot add filled regions to dependent views anymore?
Edit:
Just checked this behavior on a clean template and it worked. Running an audit on the file now. See if that fixes
So after audit (no change in the project) and recreated local file other views are working now. Duplicated the view with detailing and it works in the new view.
Corrupted view it would seem. May have others since other projects have dependent views this doesn't work on either. I wonder if there is a bug in the view system in 2018 that could be causing this in some but not all views?
Hi @chubbard
It's been a while and I just wanted to check back on this issue?
Do you seek more assistance from the community? Is it possible that you share the Revit model and a journal to investigate further? Let me know and I can share a private folder link.
Looking forward to your reply update.

In 2019.2, I had this same issue on a single dependent view of a project. Auditing the file did not resolve the issue. I was able to use the filled region and masking tools only after drawing a detail line in the view. Immediately after doing that, it strangely worked as normal.
Hi @hstaabprime
That's strange indeed, can you share the file a screencast and journal, so that we can explore more as to why this occurs?
Thanks,

hahaha.. thanks for that.
I was pulling my hair off.. this strange suggestion worked for me.
Thanks for that.

Strange indeed. I had the same issue in Revit 2022.1. the filled region draw tab appeared ONLY after drawing a detail line in the view. No need to duplicate/re-create the view (for which I am grateful, because I had 10 dependent views linked to that particular view). Many thanks!

Thanks for finding that workaround. You helped another victim.
