My libraries are in their own location and the template files are on the company's server. Every time I open Revit (any version) it tells me my "default family template file is invalid." Every time I go into settings and specify the paths it doesn't remember them when I open Revit back up.
As you can see in the photo the paths are incomplete. It only remembers "default path for users" and the "point cloud" . Under places its all blank too... even though I specified all of this 100x over and over agian.
Please help.
I followed this. It did not help.
I already have the content. It's just in a different location that default spot... hence why I'm specifying a default location (as shown in the image).
each time I re-open revit the default paths are removed (as shown in the image). I re-specify them, re-open revit, and the default paths are removed.
We have experienced this same exact issue. The only solution we have found so far is to reinstall Revit. That fixed the issue but is not an ideal solution.
I'm having the exact same issue.
It only began when I got a new computer and had new installs of Revit. It didn't happen before on my old computer. I've reset all the information several times in several versions of Revit, 19, 20, 21, & 22, and it never holds the information. As a last resort, I tried to force the paths in the Revit.ini file but it keep resetting that file back to not hold the file paths.
I hope there is another solutions beyond doing another re-install...
We did have this same situation occur again to another user. We were able to identify two Revit.ini files and edited those directly. There is a section called [DirectoriesENU] where you can make those changes to the folder paths. They were under the Users\user.name\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Revit\Autodesk Revit 20xx and also found under ProgramData\Autodesk\RVT 20xx\UserDataCache. Restarted after changes and this helped resolve this issue.
At time of installation, a default revit.ini is created in C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\RVT <version>\UserDataCache. This one is used if a user has not yet a revit.ini in his/hers Userprofile (C:\Users\<name>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Revit\Autodesk Revit <version>). Now it happens this default revit.ini can be corrupt. For example, it's zero bytes in size. Replace this revit.ini with one containing your default settings and chances are, no more "Default Family Template File Invalid".
