File History (Finding the Original Author)

I am a teaching assistant that grades student Revit models. Is there a way to see if a student just got another students file and put his or her name on it? I believe your are able to find the original creator in Word/Excel/Powerpoint but I have not found a way in Revit. Is this possible to do?

Thanks

No real "automatic" way. You could check the GUID of a few individual elements. (Select element and on Manage tab use "ID of Selection" on the Inquiry panel) The same element in 2 different models created by 2 different people would have 2 different GUIDs. You could "spot check" a few items like this in models to know if they were simply copied and the name changed. even so this would not be 100% effective. There are ways around this.

Make this a second.  I have done that and found my students cheating this way.  I have usually tried to give assignments where the students pick their own plan or building to input into the software.  I know that is not always possible.

Go to the Collaborate Tab- Manage Models Panel- Show History.  A browser window will open, you then  navigate to the Revit file in question and click on it.  It will show a Date/Time Stamp of authors.  I am also catching students cheating this way.

I think this is a big issue, especially when you are working with unethical people who just say so and so did something in meetings that you are not invited to.

When you have a model, and everybody is deleting and adding things, when there's a problem, the person who did it is the first to literally accuse another person of doing it. A record of who deleted, edited, and created something, and when should be inherent part of Revit models.

And I am not talking about the log in the collaborate, I thing you should be able to select any model item, walls, windows, etc. and see who created it, when, who edited it, and if something has been deleted, you should be able to track through a list of deleted item with ID.
