Dear Experts,
I was planning to build network for the File based work-sharing and need your suggestion (Central file located at network drive and 6 Desktop computers with local files). Is there any one who used 10G technology on this purpose. My question is:
1. What kind of driver for central file you suggest not to limit speed of 10G network. (Server, NAS and etc.). What hardware parameters you suggest. SSD, CPU, RAM recommendation. 10G network port is required?
2. What cabling type (CAT6, Fiber and etc) is recommended not to limit speed of 10G? Any maximum cabling length recommended?
3. For the computers which local files is stored, do i need 10g Ethernet adapter to be installed as well? Is it going to affect performance?
4. Any suggestion about 10 GB network switch? Brand, parameters and etc.
Thanks.
u will Server to transfer 1GB for every user or computer used LAN server and hardware i recommend high number or cores and multi thread and 32GB RAM and SSD Hard and +3.5Ghz
Hi @kvusal - just checking if you managed to see real perfomance increase by switching to 10g LAN?
I can share what I observed 4 years ago for couple of months being on 10g LAN (unfortunately had to switch back to 1g since then, because of our IP Phones). While file transfers were at good speed, what I saw when revit was syncing to central (both workstation on 10g and with SSDs and no antivirus) was not a constant 10g connection - while syncing there were 1 second bursts at full speed, after that nothing , few more bursts and again long few seconds pauses. I think between the bursts revit was doing verification with the central and most of the time and there was no real benefit of going to 10g. - may be 3%-5% faster syncing if I remeber well. Anyhow soon I am preparing the office to go back on 10g LAN but clearly not expecting anything stellar from revit.
My setup was 10GBase-T LAN cards on the workstations -->cat6 cable--> 10g netgear 10GBase-T switches, fiber optic for uplinks between switches and the server.
