Family Type question

When I click on the Family Type button this is what I see:

Untitled.png

But in a book it shows this:

Untitled 2.png

Why is it different?

Thank you for your help.

Hi

The dialog box changes to fit the families parameters and category. As your image shows a look-up table button, I can tell that's a MEP family or steel structure. Casework families usually do not have look-up tables.

Hello you need to pick the objects / family first .

Remember : without the difficult times in your LIFE, you wouldn't be who you are today. Be grateful for the good and the bad. ANGER doesn't solve anything. It builds nothing, but it can destroy everything...

The image in the book is out of date. The family types dialog box changed in 2016 R2 (I think?) The controls on the side of the box in the image from the book were "iconized" and moved to the bottom of the dialog you show in your screen shot.

The difference is that Eric Wing (Author of your book) only retitled the Book over the years... changing it from Revit 2014 to Revit 2015 to Revit 2016 and now Revit 2017 without changing the contents...I just googled his book and he actually has some images from Revit 2013 still in there.

So while Autodesk changes the layout/content/appearance in almost every new version... Mr. Eric Wing doesn't 🙂 so you are using Revit 2016 and looking at images from the past (in that book)

LOL..@ Eric Wing...confusing people for years!  I've taken some of his classes at AU years ago, very confusing.

Supposedly his Lynda.com videos are up to date though and lots of great help.

lol not really... watching the Revit Structure previews on lynda.com .. they are not that much different. I bet a beginner would be quite confused at a certain point.

But again; he is just a green person!!! why waste all those printed books...just print a new cover and resell them 🙂 GBCI would be so proud of such green members lol

Yes, the layout/graphics of the dialog box has changed in newer versions.

But more importantly, the CONTENT of the dialog box is different. Whatever family you are working on does not have any Type Parameters set up.
