I am trying to make a complex door family that has many nested families in it. I have set up a few family type parameters to allow users to pick different door slab and frame options. The door frames are nested door type families and the door slab options are window families.
When I insert the door into a project and I try to change the window family type parameter that controls the door slab types, it brings up a drop down menu that allows you to select all window families in both the project and nested within the family. I understand after some research that this is typical but it is not useful. I (and almost every other revit user posting about this) would prefer to only have options defined in the family itself.
But, when I try to change the door family type parameter, a drop down menu appears with only the door families nested in the family not any door types in the project (which is what I want!!)
Why does this happen?! Is this just a quirk of some family types or is there a way I can limit the window family choices to the families I have nested in the door family? If this is just a quirk of the particular family type, which families operate in this way and which ones do not?
I have attached the family. I know its a bit weird.
