family reference plane position

Hello.

Is there a way to control if a created reference plane is above or below another reference plane?

In the image above if I change the 0.24 to -0.24 the reference plane moves below the center reference plane. But again if I want to move it above I need to enter again -0.24. Even more, if I turn this dimension into a parameter it's not allowed to add a negative value.

The only solution I think is to place two reference planes, one above and one below, and make only one of the two active.

What we do sometimes is create and additional pinned reference plane further above or below. The use a small offset to get it above the desire position (+) or a larger offset to get it below the desired position (-)

This is how I would setup for positive and negative reference plane value. The starting is the reference plane moving north and the second one is south and the dimension tie to positive reference plane.

Once you have this setup, you can position your model inwardly or outwardly.

For this we use 2 reference planes and 3 parameters.  So one plane (1) is dimensioned from the placement plane up, and given parameter “DimUp”, from that reference plane another plane (2) is placed below it, then dimension from Plane (1) to Plane(2) and give that parameter “DimDown”.

The 3rd Parameter “Offset” is what you will apply a distance to, negative or positive.

DimUp can be given the formula =if(Offset > 0”, Offset, 0”)

DimDown given the formula =if(offset < 0”, 0” - Offset, 0”)

 

This will allow the movement of second Plane(2) in either direction.
