Hi fellow Revit users. Does anybody know if you can make the type comments in a family change automatically when you change the family name, like a married link between the two?
The Family Name is associated with a discreet file while Type Name is an attribute of the family and each Type Comment is associated with the Type Name. Perhaps that's what you want to match? The Type Name and Type Comment, not Family Name?
The short answer is no, not exactly. When you create a new Type within a family you assign each Type Parameter that is available their own relevant unique values, Type Comment is one. If you've assigned the correct values to each then placing each instance of a Family's Type will report the information you've stored. Since it is a Type Parameter any changes you make to one will affect all other copies of that Family's Type that are placed throughout your active project.
A Dynamo graph could extract the Type Name and apply it to the Type Comment parameter. You'd need to be carefully how you approached that because you probably don't want that to happen to all of the families you are using.
