Family library - prevent saving over original rfa

Is it possible to lock rfa files to prevent editing?

I have spent considerable time developing a library of quality families for our office.
Occasionally I find someone has tweeked the rfa file to suit their project.. and saved over the original in the library.
We do have project folders for tweeked families but sometimes a save slips through the net back to the library.

Is there a file property to prevent saving over a file?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Does checking read-only work?
Can the file be loaded & opened in revit if this is checked?
We need to be able to save edits to the project family folder but not over the original file

I guess you could ask your IT to make the folders writable to only you and read-only to others.
