Family Help

Hi, This is probably a stupid question, but I can't figure it out. I need to draw a platform for a water heater. I used a generic floor based template and drew the geometry. When I try and load it into the project a circle with a line appears and it will not allow me to place it where I need to. What am I doing wrong?

Revit is looking for a host and apparently isn't finding one.

...okay, I see what's going on. Revit is looking for a Floor.  If you  don't have one in your Project yet, then you're out of luck. Really, this would a been better if you had used the Generic Model.rft. That one hosts to Levels.  I don't think I have ever used a floor hosted template.

...BTW: not to burst your bubble, but you can download this family too.  You can probably find it in seconds with a keyword search.  I know I've used a Manufacturer's family before.

I can not open the family as I do not have Revit in front of me, but judging from your screen name I would assume your ] an MEP engineer working with a linked Architectural model as the background. If this is the case the family type you selected will not work as it will be looking for a host which does not exist as the floor is in the link Arch Model.  You would need to create a face based  or level based family to place in the MEP model.

O.K. Thanks. Floor based seemed like the right choice at the time.
