Extrusion improvements

Hi. Dealing with extrusions MUST change. It is such a nightmare. Below are my suggestions for improving it significantly.

1) Please change colors for error messages. Whos idea was it to use magenta and then orange for errors? The only possible worse color combination would probably be white and yellow, every other color combination would be better. Please put something with different colors so one doesnt spend hours and hours trying to find small errors. I am young with good eyes, I can just imagine how it would be for someone older and/or color blind. The unconnected error dots are fine, however, they are not as frequent. Change colors and/or add highlights perhaps so it is clear. Temporarily change line weights, or a yellow highlight, arrows, anything!!

2) Ignore overlapping lines in a single extrusion. It is so often there are a small segment of line that is overlapping in the exact same position. So one has to go and find where the small extra line is at. It is so stupid, why not just merge the lines in a single extrusion? There are commands like that in all softwares except revit for lines that overlap. 2 lines in the exact same position should count as 1 line.

3) Pick plane works okay but should be improved. Lets face it, when you make extrusion voids it tends to be a big hole for a window or something. It is so frustrating to tab through and try to find a plane depending on the model when what I am looking for is just a small void in the same plane as the unit. I understand that the extrusion could be twisted in a lot of planes but so what, pierce it all the way through!

You are not really asking for a solution, are you? Post it under ideas, if it is an idea.

1) If you really have troubles distinguishing magenta and orange, there is a possibility to change both colours:

Change sketch colour under your line styles, change alert colour under file>options>graphics

2) Please just work more carefull, you can also tab in on lines to check where lines aren't joined

3) No idea what you are talking about.

Grind Gear.jpg

The difficulty in locating the overlapping lines in a Profile that are causing the Profile to fail in a Sweep!  And that Revit allows you to Save and Load a Profile with overlapping lines, knowing that the Profile ain't going to work! And that Revit - knowing full well that it can't use a Profile with overlapping lines - doesn't even alert you about the overlapping lines, or show you where they are!

That's what really grinds my gears!

The End. Have a good day Smiley (fröhlich)

What color combination do you propose?

Hi! Thanks for the answers!

@Avaris.

I was very happy to note that you can actually change the line styles. It seems though that the alert-one mentioned does not exist? I sort by line color and there is nothing in Line styles with that color. However, adding it to blue and thicker made it a lot easier. Thank you for that suggestion.

I would suggest blue and red. But it would be very nice if it could zoom to the errors. The error with "lines must be in closed loops" are very clearly marked, overlapping lines though are truly impossible to spot. btw, in a zoomed in format, of course it is possible to see, the problem is when it is not zoomed in an you try to find an overlapping 3mm line in a like 100m long extrusion.

First message: I do not really understand what you are trying to say.

Well, as said the alert-color is not accessible by linestyles but under file>options>graphics. If you like, you can also change your selection color. I agree that it would be a nice addition if the 'show' button shows you the errors zoomed in, maybe in some sort of sequence if you have multiple errors. Just like the Microsoft 'find operation'. Post it under ideas.
