Extracting parameter from a product code

Hello you all.

I am looking to extract a value from a family name as the family names are actual internal codes.

As an example, I have a family named B2-5C. The first number relates to the length of this product. I need a way to extract that first number as a parameter isolated from the rest of the code. We already have the length as a parameter. But it is not linked directly to that first number. At present, we enter that first number manually. But is there any way to add a parameter that would strip out the rest of the code and leave that number as parameter automatically without manual input?

Regards

J

If you want to do string manipulation and extracting values to parameters than your best bet will be to make use of Dynamo. Dynamo is extremely useful for these kind of automated tasks

Hi @jacques

Its been a while and I'm checking back to see if you've made progress on this issues and if you still need assistance from the community.

Please see: How to set ‘Formula’ for parameters in family and you can use strings to define custom parameters as mentioned by @L.Maas

See this thread on Get All Parameters form Elements and also try posting on the dynamoBIM forum for further feedback.
