You'll need to create a family for that condition.

...use you existing family as a starting point. Save it under a new name and then modify the end to match the slope angle. Then load and go.

as Barth said , or you can Cut them using Reference Planes...

In a Section or Elevation, place a Reference Plane at the end of the rafters.

Then use Cut Geometry to trim the ends of the rafters.

...or you could just build a parametric rafter family

@rclement: We love families that flex – especially rafters in Beam Systems. Screencast shows why. Rafter family attached. As the old commercial slogan goes: Try it; you like it.

@constantin.stroescu: you seem to be a pro with this Screencast stuff. I seem to have an inordinate amount of hassles with it. If you can offer me a few pointers on how to post these d*mn Screencasts -- so I can avoid pinging the other threads participants when I try -- I'd  love to hear 'em.

Yours shows okay. After you posted and see no screencast but some BS telling you "your screencast will show here after click post", just ignore it and refresh your browser. You will see it. That SOB of a message has got me more than one.

Appreciate the feedback. @ToanDN.  I must have pinged @constantin.stroescu and @cbcarch to death earlier today, trying to post my Screencast to another thread (Sorry again Guys). Maybe I ought to stick with old school and leave these Screencasts to you young whippersnappers. Ha!

every one was a great help. ive learned so much from you guys.the screen cast was great especially with the audio .this way I can follow the commands and logic he used to accomplish the task. I will try the family as well but would you have to create more than one family cause it would change depending on slope as well as roof size? or does formula take that into effect?

Ha! That question says it all! I should stick with "old school", for sure. Obviously, my Screencast efforts have failed miserably today!

What I was trying to convey through the Screencast, was that YOU CAN make a parametric family "adapt" to its "environment".  That's the whole idea.  But whatever; there's always the alternative: laying down Ref. Lines and trimming individual members -- one-by-one for each and every scenario.

Best of luck to you!

Cheers!

Be sure that I , also prefer to work with parametric rafters as you suggested....you work a little more at the beginning , but later you'll have more control and it will much easier when you'll have a large amount of rafters .

As, about the assumption that you are the elder one....I am sure that it isn't true ..I figure , I am the one...

Below is another approach using Coping tool.  See screencast in a few minutes.
