Whenever I export from Revit to AutoCAD the units do not remain the same.
For example:
I have a Revit project with Project Units set to mm. When I export views/sheets to .dwg the .dwg file has units set to Meters.
This also happens with imperial units. Project units in Revit set to inches, then when converted to .dwg the units are Feet.
When I export I make sure to change the 'Units & Coordinates' value in the Export setup inside Revit. But it still does not translate.
This becomes a problem when:
1. Our client requires .dwg files in mm units.
2. We have hundreds of sheets.
Please tell me I'm doing something wrong. I have searched and searched the web and I don't seem to see other people experiencing this problem.
To clarify the issue.
it's the INSUNITS variable that is changing.
For some reason this is being set to Meters. Which becomes a problem when we send it to a consultant and they inturn try to insert our backgrounds into there drawings.
Hi
Check the following the Below options.
DWG Export >> Modify DWg/DXF Export Setup >> Units & Coordinates >> One DWG units is :
Foot
Inch
Meter
Centimeter
Milimeter
Thanks for the reply. But as I mentioned in my original email, I have checked the Units & Coordinates in the Revit Export setup.
Regardless of what that is set to the following system variables do not come in the same:
dwgunits
insunits
For example: I have a Revit project: Project Units are set to mm. 'Units and Coordinates' under export setup is set to mm. However, after exporting to .dwg when I open the .dwg file both dwgunits, and insunits are set to meters.
There does not seem to be a way of controlling these 2 variables.
Wait... so does your model grow x1000 in size? Like 1000mm becomes 1000m? Or is it just that the dimesions read out in a unit you don't desire, like 1000mm becomes 1m?
The geometry does not change, and neither do the dimensions. The system variables controlling this all work.
The system variables that are the issue are
dwgunits
insunits
This becomes an issue when we send the files to a consultant and clients expecting to get dwgs in a specific unit. This is a large scale project with about 300 sheet files.
I have had to run a batch script on the dwgs that converts the system variables back to mm.
We're still experiencing this in R2022+
We export .csv files for point layout in decimal feet, and have our .dwg export settings to also export in decimal feet, but when you try to marry those up downstream in AutoCAD, the .dwg is at 1/12 scale compared to the points. The setting for units in the Revit .dwg export dialogue is being ignored in some circumstances.
