Exporting IFC model with Gridlines

First time poster as i have always been able to solve issues i have come across on REVIT myself however i came come across one which i cant.

Is it possible to export an IFC with Gridlines?

I am using Revit 2015 and wish to do so to be able to then import into TEKLA 21.

I note that there used to be an "export to Tekla addin" for REVIT but that has in the past years been removed due to the functionaility of IFC.

However exporting through the IFC function on REVIT i cant seem to add the Gridline into the IFC. I downloaded the IFC 2015 exporter but still have no luck.

If anyone could shine some light it would be much appreciated.

Sam

It definitely will not be exporting via IFC, but there can be below work around.

Export to DWG, then import this to Tekla for your reference:)

If you want as a Revit object, then model grids as a object & export, this is definitely not a good option:(

Grids can be exported from Revit.  Indeed I have done so in the past when issuing IFCs to steelwork fabricators.

You can get fooled fooled by the settings in Modify Setup into thinking it can't.  It's just that the settings are to be found elsewhere.

You need to go to Export>Options>IFC Options.

  • select Grids
  • change from 'not exported' to 'IfcGrid'

Make sure that if you are using a 3D view you don't have 'Export only elements visible in view' selected.  If you want to limit what is exported via a view, set up a roof plan with the associated level your lowest floor level, the View Range set to unlimited and have grids showing, and export this.

Dear Andrew!

Could you please help me with advise?

I am trying to export revit grids to IFC and to open it in the BIMsight, but dont see anything.

In the Revit export settings Revit Grids mapped to IFCGrids.

Good to hear.

In your first post you referred to IfcGrids , it needs to be IfcGrid - in the singular

I gave this a try, but it doesn't seem to work? As soon as I put a check mark at 'Only export elements visible in view', it won't export the grid lines, even though they are visible in the view. So I wonder if there's a different way to tackle this problem?
