exporting contours from revit into illustrator to use in lazer cutter

Hi all

I'm doing my Design and Technology final high school project and im having some issues with transforming my 2017 revit model into a real model. I have a lot of topography and want to represent that in a model. Is there any way to export the contours in a flat iso file into illustrator to then use on a laser cutter. i've done some research and talked to a few architects however i cant seem to complete it. I've been trying to export as a DWG but i cant seem to load the right sheet/view that will load in illustrator. Maybe i'm going about it the wrong way or maybe its not possible. Any help would be appreciated.

cheers

What file format does your laser cutter accept? Most machines that I have heard of accept .DXFs.

Go into the view that you want to export, hide geometry that you do not wish to export. You should see a plan view of the topography (the Site view) showing contours. Export to a DXF. In AutoCAD, open the DXF, save each contour on it's own layer. Save as a DXF. This should work - unless your cutter wants something different.

Or else print the Site view to PDF, import into Illustrator. See this -

Export the plan view you show in your JPG to a DWG file. Don't worry about getting a sheet, just export the plan view itself. That should give you what you need for the laser cutting software. You may need to do some work in AutoCAD to isolate layers for cutting and make sure the DWG file is 2d but it should work fine.
