HI,

I created curved geometry in Solidworks and exported it as a .rfa file,

'

But I'm unable to see it as a family? I've attached a image of what it looks like.

it's approx. 31500 mm in length & 50mm thick.

Try Solidworks to DWG to Revit.

Export to SAT file and import it in a family.

Hi barthbradley,

Although SolidWorks can export in variety of 3D formats,

I can't export a model as a 3D .DWG, it only gives me 2D snap-shot/view of the Model.

I'll try the SAT.

Huh? I don't know what you are talking about, but there are many, many videos on-line - found through a simple keyword search - that will guide you through the process of converting Solidworks to DWG.  Check 'em out.

I tried importing a SAT, it didn't work.

Just iterate my last post;

I meant to say - I can export a DWG, but it's only a 2D "projection" if you like, from a particular view. Not a complete 3D model.

I did see a video of converting to a Parasoild first then importing into Autocad and saving as a DWG, but I don't have 3D Autocad.

I've attached an image- can this geometry be created in Revit?

Importing a SAT didn't work how?  Can you be more specific?

When I save the SW model to .SAT format, I get the following error, please see attached.

I've also included the .SAT file.

Also,  I'm opening the .SAT inside a project file through;

--> INSET TAB

     ---> IMPORT CAD

Thanks.

The SAT file cannot be open obviously since you exported it with errors.  Why don't you share the SW file here?

I can -I just assumed most Revit users would not have SW.

I also, like to note  this not the final shape - I only did it quickly to see if I could import into Revit,

I'll have to spend lot more time making sure mirrored components have tangent faces.

I've tried reproducing the geometry in Revit, but I can't create working Sweep,

I've taken some screen shots which in sweep mode - so you can see the swept path & profile I'm trying to sweep.

I realised there is a bug in the version of SW I'm running when converting to .RFA format.

I have to use the 2019 version to get a successful .RFA file which shows the model in Revit.

but there's a problem - when it does, the conversion tessellates all surfaces, which effects the presentation!

I've attached a surface I did in SW and exported as a .RFA

Import it in AutoCAD and save as DWG, then import the DWG in Revit.

That's great!

I've redone the model in SW (2019),

Can you do the same with my new attached model?

Also, if it's possible can you save in Revit 2020 or just save it as a DWG and send it to me?
