Revit 2024
We previously always printed to PDF. Either with Adobe PDF or Foxit PDF. Recently I began using the Export to PDF feature since I had so much mor control over sheet order, etc.
But we have noticed an issue that only comes up with this method. Text appears to have carriage returns that don't exist when viewing it in Revit or when printing to PDF or directly to a printer.
It's as though the text is hitting a right margin and returning, but it shouldn't be.
This happens in text notes and in schedules. In schedules, the text will return and overlap the text from the cell below it. The cell the text is in does not grow to fit. So ONLY the text is affected by the problem. Other linework within the schedule ignores the text return.
Here are a few examples:
The first is what it looks like in Revit:
And what it looks like using Export to PDF:
Finally, here's what it looks like from Foxit PDF Printer:
So, the text isn't larger, it just puts in a return that isn't needed.
Here are examples with basic annotation text:
The font in use here is a TTF named Graphite Light.
This is a pretty significant problem for obvious reasons. We have no idea when or where this will happen, so we will pretty much have to abandon Export to PDF until this is resolved.
Any help is appreciated!
Thanks!
Unfortunately Export to PDF does not have the option to embed fonts. I suggest using Diroots Pro sheet PDF export. It is superior to all other options IMHO.
Cool. We can give DiRoots a try. I already use DiRoots One. I've used ProSheets in the past, but I like the idea of the built-in option. Oh well.
The weird thing is the text looks fine in every other way. It's not as though the font is missing, being substituted, the size being changed, etc. It looks correct. It just adds these random returns. Can that still be caused by the inability to embed fonts?
ProSheets lacks the ability to save the sheet order, which is the biggest plus for the Export to PDF option. Without that function, I don't really see the advantage of ProSheets over the regular print dialog and sheet set system. It feels slower, as it's opening every sheet to print the set.
What about it makes it superior to all other options?
I find the Print Sheets tool in pyRevit to be a little better in that it can use a sheet schedule for the print set and order. What it lacks is all the print options available in the default print dialog (like the show/hide, color, and raster/vector options).
Really hope they can fix the Export to PDF function as that had all the options and the sheet order.

Yes, you can sort the order, but how do you SAVE the order?
After manually ordering sheets, go back to Selection Tab and Save V/S Set as a new set, then you can use that new set the next time exporting.
Okay. So after printing the set the first time I tested ProSheets, there was then an "OrderedPrintSet" in the View/Sheet Set drop down. So I thought this would be the saved set including the order. But it was still just ordered alphabetically.
I just tried again as you instructed. Selected all the sheets under the Selection tab, then went to the Format tab, ordered the set. I went back to the Selection tab and saved the V/S Set as a New Set.
I then closed ProSheets and opened it again. I filtered the list using the new set I created. On the Selection screen they are not ordered properly just by filtering (which makes sense, it's just filtering so far). So I selected all the sheets and went to the Format tab where I hoped the order would be correct. I opened the order sheets window again and the sheets are in default alphabetical order.
What am I missing here? You obviously have this figured out, but I can't tell how this thing is saving any order I specify. ![]()
