1. I have my Sheets set up in Revit with my floors divided into several parts 1:50 and placed on the sheets in the correct manner using cropped model views.
2. I would now like to export my Sheets as DWG Layouts with Viewports showing the model views as a cropped external references of the whole model view. As is normal in AutoCAD layouts.
3. When I use the option 'Export views on sheets and links as external references' Revit now creates a dwg external xref model file of the cropped rotated view only?!
!! Why even bother creating viewports in the exported DWG Layout in the first place? The model is cropped after the viewport anyway?!
!! Apart from this the cropped dwg model file created has a different origin if compared to the same model view exported as a dwg model file straight off!? So if I want to replace the cropped xref model file in the dwg Layout with an exported dwg of the whole floorplan they don't line up!?
Seriously, is this the best you can come up with? I've used Vectorworks for years and their dwg papperspace/modelspace export is lightyears more intuitive than Autodesks own and they're a competitor!!

I understand your frustration and here's what you need to do to create the views set to world coordinates to enable them to be 'stitched' together in CAD.
Rather than export the sheets you need to export he views on the sheets.
The views will still be cropped but they will retain the coordinate system to allow joining using Cartesian coordinates used in CAD.
Hope this helps ease the pain.
